I'm *really* bad at reviewing music, but I'll do my best.
And if you don't already know, I have next to no skills in Japanese, so I can at best guess what the lyrics are about, so take that into account when reading.
The songs:
Namida ga Tomaranai Houkago
- Their month-old single; not one of my favorites, but good addition to the album as the lead singers are not the same as usually (Miki, Asami and Sayumi).
Sukiyaki
- This isn't a song for my taste. More annoying than enjoyable.
Haru no Uta
- Slower than most songs. Should be excellent when in mood for slower songs, quite OK otherwise, too.
Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari:
- Released as a single earlier; (translated) lyrics are quite hilarious and sounds good. IMO, this is MM's best '04 single.
Chokkan ~Toki to Shite Koi wa~
- Fast and quite energetic. Somewhat resembles some W's songs in style - a good thing if you ask me.
Dokusenyoku
- Sounds quite good. Nice solos. Not a classic, but don't let it bother you.
Lemon Iro to Milk Tea
- Not single-quality material, but brings nice variety to the songs of this album. One of the best new songs.
Roman ~My Dear Boy~
- Another one of their singles; not especially catchy, but still quite enjoyable.
Koe
- Mixing work wasn't as good as it could have been, at least for my taste. The sound of the song somewhat resembles Sakura Gumi's singles, but the mixing makes it all sound quite chaotic. Would've had potential to be one of the best on this album.
Help!
- The song from their summer musical. I find this song very catchy and it definately deserved its place on this album.
Ship! To the Future
- Could've been a good b-side to a single. Not quite single level quality, but sounds quite good nonetheless. Might've been better suited to be the last track, due to its feeling.
Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari 2:
- Whereas in original version the girls sung about each other, in this version everyone sings about herself. Since this means everybody really gets sing something solo, this is a good thing. "Narrated" by Tsunku.
Overall
The singles of 2004 were quite good, and if you don't already have them the songs are enough of a reason for buying this album. Other than that, the rest of the songs are quite OK; Help! and Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari 2 are excellent, and there are some other good songs as well. And a couple of disappointments.
I'd say that this album is worth buying. Even for those that own the singles many of the new songs are still quite worthy additions to any Morning Musume collection.
I've added some links for purchasing to the end of the page.
