Linking to Hello! Database

Linking to Hello! Database is encouraged whenever you feel that it would be useful. By following the guidelines on this page you can ensure that the links remain valid.

Unless you are referring to a particular page, you should link to the front page at address http://hpdb.vicion.net . You are not allowed to link directly to images and other possible downloadable files without explicit permission.

Deep linking / linking to specific pages

If you don't want to bother reading all this, the general rule is that if the name of the page is on the address, it is probaly OK to use as such (eg. http://hpdb.vicion.lan/show/People/Ai+Kago.html is OK when linking to page about Ai Kago). If there is "id" present in the address, you should not use it (usually only seen when clicking "random entry" link).

People, groups and releases

For linking to people, groups and releases the following style is recommended (expanation after description):

http://hpdb.vicion.net/show/people/Ai+Kago.html
http://hpdb.vicion.net/show/people/Kago+Ai.html
http://hpdb.vicion.net/show/groups/Morning+Musume.html
http://hpdb.vicion.net/show/releases/Love+Machine.html

As seen in the example, when referring to people, family name can be either before or after given name.

You may see other kinds of links, but the shown types are preferred for the following reasons:
  • The people/ groups/ and releases/ can be skipped, but resolving the link on our server requires in comparison very little processing power as it already knows where to look.
  • .html at the end can be skipped, but it is in general better to have a file extension for saving and other purposes.
  • The link looks a lot better (and is more obvious) than the alternative format still in use in certain cases: index.php?page=showcontent&type=people&name=ai+kago

Other types of content

There are no universally valid rules to referring to other types of content. In these cases you should use your best judgement and most likely the URL from the link that got you to the page.
