Coconuts Musume
Main Group

The theme of this group is that all members come from Hawaii.

In summer of 1999 the group debuted with five members, but already after their second single, Chelsea and April left the group. To replace them, Lehua joined the group before their third single. Danielle left in 1999 and Lehua in 2001 leaving Mika and Ayaka as the only remaining members. Mika also left the group in May of 2004 as she left Japan to go to Los Angeles.

As a result, Ayaka is currently the only member of the group, and with this configuration it has not been present in concerts.

A speciality of Coconuts Musume has been that they have made some releases in the English language. The releases in English were of their Dance & Chance and Zurui Onna, as well as an English cover version of Morning Musume's Summer Night Town.

It is also noteworthy that of the membes of Coconuts Musume, Ayaka and Mika were the only ones to be fluent in Japanese.

The group was originally founded when as a high schooler Mika and four of her classmates were singing in a restaurant called Waikiki. A bandmate of Tsunku from Sharan Q, Makoto happened to be eating at the restaurant and convinced Tsunku to have the girls debut in Japan.
